There are a few Flex Camp events coming up that you should know about. The first is in Michigan, where the Flex user group is organizing a two day Flex Camp event with a hands on Flex training event for the second day. The event starts at 9:00 AM on Wednesday July 30th, and ends at 12 Noon on Thursday July 31st. Registration is $25 for one day, or $40 for both days. Registration is limited to 150 people, so you'll want to register soon.

There's also a Flex Camp event happening in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada on August 21st, from 5:30 - 9:30 PM. There are 3 presentations from local Ottawa companies, and 3 demos from companies using Flex. Again, registration is limited, so you'll want to register for Flex Camp Ottawa. (Its free!)

If you're interested in hosting your own Flex Camp event, you can learn more about hosting your own Flex Camp event at flex.org.

Now that the source for the Flex SDK has been available for 3 months I've already seen plenty of folks taking advantage and building cool projects. But I believe there are probably plenty of people who would like to make some contributions and don't know where to start. JIRA to the rescue! We've set up a list of bugs that we think are perfect candidates for folks from the community to look into, just go find a bug that looks interesting and start fixing (put a comment in the bug to say you're looking into it).

Additionally we've got a little incentive program going! For every 3 patches that we accept, we'll buy an Adobe-related book for you off of your Amazon wish list. And for the first two people who submit 10 patches that we accept, we're going to pay for their MAX ticket!

Please check out the Flex 3 Contributions page for more information.

To give ourselves a bit more time to test things, we're pushing tickets sales for the Singularity web conference to Monday, July 7th. I also have an exciting announcement to make but that requires it's own post...

The Flex Show, a bi-weekly podcast focused on the Flex community, has launched a new video version that will be produced in addition to the existing podcast. Episode 1 is up now on their site, focusing on an introduction to Flex Builder and building your first Flex project. If you're new to Flex, or thinking about getting started, this is a great video to watch.

OK, I couldn't help it. There's so much tabloid journalism going on in our industry these days that it's probably not long before we actually start seeing such titles. I'm waiting for: JEREMY KEITH IN ALIEN BABY CONSPIRACY!!! (all caps and three exclamation marks and all.) So what was I saying again: Oh yes, I've just [...]
In the last few years, I've been making a very conscious effort to attend and speak at a variety of conferences both within the Flash world and in the greater world of web development, web standards, and open source. This has meant that in the last year or so alone, I got to opportunity to [...]

As I mentioned previously, I gave a new talk titled Bare-naked Flash: Dispelling myths and building bridges at Highland Fling this week. When did Flash grow up? From annoying ads and animations to RIAs, the Flash Platform has come a long way in the last decade. During the talk, I showcased RIAs, Flex, ActionScript, AIR, Flash [...]
Now that I'm back from SWSX, somewhat over my jetlag, and BarcampBrighton2 is over, I'm looking forward to a few weeks of productive work in Brighton. But first, Llamas. During South-by, a bunch of us hit the Star of Texas Fair & Rodeo. What an experience! Part of the experience included an encounter with a [...]

Relly Annett-Baker of Poppy Copy is giving a talk at the Brighton Girl Geek Dinner organized by Rosie Sherry on March 26th and I'm happy to announce that Singularity is among the sponsors. Relly is also going to be speaking at Singularity at the end of October on copywriting; an essential topic that is unfortunately [...]
It was a tiring but fun three days in Amsterdam last week. Following a five-hour band rehearsal with Phlash5 that ended at midnight, I presented a morning session titled Beyond the Buttons on the first day of the conference that was really well received. In the evening, there was the Influxis-sponsored after-party where we performed [...]
I'm in Cork, Ireland to attend a day of workshops tomorrow at the WebCamp on Social Network Portability organized by Uldis Bojars and Anders Conbere. Social Network Portability is a topic that I am hugely interested in for Singularity. One of the key reasons for attending a web conference is to meet and hang out with [...]
