I got my own certificate for signing AIR applications a couple of weeks ago, so I thought I'd share my experience in order to help others more easily navigate the process.
there is just under a month left until fitc toronto, one of the Flash industry's premier events. this year I'll be talking about the new features planned for the next version of ActionScript (i.e., features in ECMAScript 4). my lecture notes are already available online. if you are interested in attending, you can register here. Excellent presentation on schools and creativity by Sir Ken Robinson
These are the first glimpses of the new sumeco gallery. Theo Aartsma(design) and I (coding) are currently working hard on the new version of the sumeco gallery. This time we take it to the next level, and offcourse using 3D to get there. Let me show you some steps we have taken. First of all we [...]
My daily Adobe Updater experience: Launch Photoshop. Cringe as I see the freakin' Adobe Updater icon jumping in the dock like a crazed puppy dog. Switch over to it. See the completely unhelpful dialog above (Which file? Where should I place it? Why should I care? Leave me alone!). Force quit Adobe Updater.
360 Flex Europe : 7-9 April 2008 | Milan, Italy There is just 10 days to go until the 360 Flex Europe conference starts!! I am really excited This is the first time the conference is coming to Europe after several successful editions in the US. If you have not registered yet for the conference, you [...]
I was reading about Sam Ruby’s experience as an OS X switcher and he mentions the phrase uncanny valley which is an interesting theory on the emotive response of humans to technology (robotics actually) based on how similar the tech is to humanity. Now I’m guessing our connections to tech are highly subjective and I might [...]
My good friend and FlashBrighton veteran Jo Summers has been enthusing at me for some time about the Arduino boards. And I just knew that as soon as I started playing with one, I would get obsessed, so I’ve been putting it off for a while. I knew you could use Arduinos to interface with [...]

The competition — which showcases individual and group projects created with industry-leading Adobe creative software — honors the most talented and promising student graphic designers, photographers, illustrators, animators, digital filmmakers, developers and [...]
This is basically step #1 of generating your own 3d art. In step #2 you simply add a new 3d object every second or so based on the current position of the target object (in this case “mainSphere”).
I just wrapped up my seminar for Adobe Developer Week 2008. While there was no cat killing bunny rabbit this time around, I did create a number of small exciting demo applications for Flash...

Over the next few months I’ll be going around the world (literally) speaking about Flex and Adobe AIR. Here’s a quick rundown on where I’ll be: Wednesday March 25 in Las Vegas: TheServerSide Java Symposium - Co-presenting with Eddie O’Neil from BEA Thursday March 26 in Philadelphia: Emerging Technologies for the Enterprise - Porting from Web [...]
This version is not nearly as cool as the previous one I posted.  It doesn’t have any of the cool selection or stacking features and there is no 3D in this version.  It was just a test app that I built to experiment with FOAM.  While I was ripping off Doug’s TileUI project that I showed in my previous post, [...]
Good news! I’ve integrated my new 3D line drawing algorithm into a Papervision LineMaterial class! Bad news! It probably won’t work for very long… the reason? Well Papervision is going through an exciting transformation that I’m not sure I can talk about right now… but suffice it to say, it’ll be pretty cool. But in [...]
Moving to Wordpress 2.5 messed up my RSS feeds but I don't think it's an issue that should affect others (I had a unique setup). I'm using the FeedBurner FeedSmith plugin and for some reason I apparently had a weird setup where I'd duplicated the wp-rss2.php script to wp-new-rss2.php, had FeedBurner feeding off of wp-new-rss2.php [...]
Wow…. just wow… http://www.randsinrepose.com/archives/2007/11/11/the_nerd_handbook.html I mean, this guy even knows about the old mac mini sitting on the floor next to my desk for the last few months. WTF???
It’s not often I write much personal stuff here but this is a BIG one. At 02:02 on 21st March our baby boy was born. He was 54cm in length and weighed 6lb 13oz. Both Jo and Rudi are doing great! Here’s a bit of video taken yesterday of him on his changing mat getting used to [...]
