Looks like Eric has a little problem with getting a sprite with an non 0/0 registration point correctly drawn into a BitmapData object. Here's help. The problem is that by default the draw() command work in such a way that the registration point will line up with the upper left corner of the bitmapData. So what has to be done is to offset the sprite by the amount it's off from that point using the second argument which is a drawing matrix. You can retrieve a clips "real" registration point by using the getBounds() method. Feed the negative of the
AIR iPhone is a virtual iPhone created using the Ribbit API. The desktop application simulates the UI of the iPhone and can be used as a fully functional phone. For anyone who missed it, the presentation and source files of the examples I covered in the San Flashcisco June Meet are now available. One thing I should point out is that the source files are in Flash CS3 format. They should, however, work in Flash 8, so if you need them in Flash 8 format, just let me know. Also, though I didn't have time to cover it at the user group meeting, if you're interested in what's different in the Flash Player 9 and 10 versions of the spin gallery, see the class file ImageMesh3D.as.
Here’s another of our additional components we used in a recent project and presented at LFPUG. It adds the following styles to TileList. verticalGap - the vertical spacing between item renderers. horizontalGap - the horizontal spacing between item renderers. scrollBarScale - the vertical scale of the VScrollBar if shown, and horizontal scale of the HScrollBar is shown. easing - the [...]
Mark Schmitt paints a big tent two-party picture where issue oriented constituencies are able to effectively organize and compete by virtue of Clay Shirky’s lowered transactions costs. The use of constituencies rather than parties is telling. The American political system’s implementation of Montesqueian separation of powers provides a durable, but extremely rigid political system by pitting [...]

A post on Josh Holmes‘ blog mentioned that he watches videos on the TED site regularly to gain insight into topics he may not have heard about before. This is a brilliant way to take advantage of some seriously good content at that site. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design and is the world’s foremost [...]
Another great tutorial at The Tech Labs, this time by Fausto Carrera, explaining how to creat your own Flickr Search Engine, using Flash and actionscript 3. Read Tutorial and download support files
A treemap displays hierarchal data in a truly fascinating way. Using a limited rectangular space, a series of nodes display relationships between items through visible properties such as size and color. Furthermore, by structuring your data into categories, you can discover similar relationships on multiple levels and navigate your data in a way that you [...]
The below tutorials will let you learn how to create a psd template and then code it in html/css using an editor like Dreamweaver.
Jeff Graham e-mailed me tell me about the launch of Flex Gigs, a site for Flex job listings. Just two listing there for now, but hopefully that number will grow significantly.
Now that the old MXNA is back up and has been revamped as Adobe Feeds I had a good excuse to create a Firefox search plugin for it. If you’re a Firefox user you can install the plugin by clicking on the button below. Enjoy!     addthis_url = 'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.peterelst.com%2Fblog%2F2008%2F06%2F22%2Fadobe-feeds-firefox-search-plugin%2F'; addthis_title [...]
As some of you may know, I have been the community manager for the InsideRIA site since its launch last year. I would like to try something new for InsideRIA and that is publishing some snippets of information that is part of your book during the writting process. Think of it like “here is what [...]
You would think that reverting to a previous version of your application would be one of the key use cases for a version control system like Subversion and that it would be trivial to do. When I was first starting out with Subversion, I thought there would be a revert command that took a revision as [...]
iPython is an awesome extended Python shell that gives you goodies like tab completion for instances, history tracing (so you can easily copy interactive sessions as doctests), etc. And, if you install it, your Django project on Google App Engine will automatically start using it instead of the regular python shell when you use ./manage.py [...]
One of my google alerts stumbled on a article published Friday by Bruce Silver of the Intelligent Enterprise Blog. Opening line - “Did you know Adobe had a business process management suite (BPMS)? Most people don’t, even though with more than 5,000 customers they could be considered a major player.” Read the rest of the article [...]
As promised at the previous post, here is how i used the PopUpButton that can position its pop up. I have a “tool box” button that can be dragged around, but it is restrained to stick to the borders of the container. Depending on which side this tool-box-button is residing i determine its pop up opening direction. Inside [...]

Flickr stores on their servers, photos form all their users around the world, and they have an open api so you could interact with it, and make your own developments, like PicNik.com, the photos online editor, where you could import your Flickr photos and make it look really cool.

Now in this tutorial I’m gonna show you how to interact with the flickr data base, making your own photo search engine, looking for tags on the photos.

Support Binary with HTTPService - Nobody can argue that HTTP is the most simple and reliable way of doing client server communication these days. That’s why extending it a bit further to support binary in Flex makes good sense. Make Flex Looks 3D - From time to time you want to produce a WOW with your [...]
