This is a great news! I’ve been waiting for this to happen for a long time. If you don’t believe me that Google is indexing flash try to search on Google by this kind of phrases: “flex filetype:swf“; and you’ll get a list of SWF files that were indexed by Google. How does Google do this? [...]
Adobe has announced new technologies that will allow SWF content to be indexed and searchable, not just text in the SWF, but also data generated programatically and at runtime. Google is the first to leverage this new ability, and some great Google-centric context can be found on the Google Webmaster Central Blog entry entitled Improved Flash Indexing.
OK, the news today is that Adobe is working with Google and Yahoo! to make sure they are able to index SWF content fully. That’s pretty exciting and a real step in the good direction but it does leave me with a bunch of questions and concerns. Reportedly Google and Yahoo! have been given a ’special, [...]
I’m just curious if flv / h.264 cuePoints / timed-text tracks, captions and other metadata will actually be picked up by the search engines now? I’m guessing based on “the dance” here that we can’t expect any actual deep linking to automagically appear. Right now we’re being spoon fed information. What I’m hoping to hear soon are [...]
Ryan and the Adobe team just let the world know that SEO is no longer the elephant in the room when it comes to Flash goodness. I’m obviously not in the loop and can’t add much, but it was curious that Adobe, by the looks of the announcement, is not collaborating with Microsoft. Google and [...]
I got an email from Thomas Joos tonight saying he had something I might be interested in, and you’re not wrong there! Using the b.Tween framework (currently in beta) which in turn uses barefootsoft’s EyeGT technology they were able to port mobile content, in this case a Flash Lite app to the iPhone. While that [...]
Let us present you prototype of a new service, which lets you to convert 3D-scenes into Alternativa3D engine format. Scenes may be viewed using chosen camera controller type, and you can post a links to scene on other sites. Precess is quite easy — you upload scene file, set paths to all used textures, ajust some viewing parameters, and get flash-module ready to be used by others. At this moment AlternativaPlayer imports scenes in 3ds-format, and we’re planning to support more popular formats soon. Looking forward for your comments and suggestions at this forum thread. AlternativaPlayer

I get asked a lot of questions about my tree experiments, so I thought I would write up a simple explanation to point people in the right direction. Trees are beautiful examples of recursion in the natural world. Recursion is a deep topic, but for our purposes can be simplified...
Just a quick reminder folks that the early bird ticket price is ending Friday June 27th. After June 27th, prices go to Standard Pricing. Time is flying by! It only seems like a few days ago that  FOTB08 was announced!  If you have been procrastinating, deliberating or putting it off until the last minute, don’t [...]
Andy Zupko wrote an awesome tutorial showing you how to create a dragable 3D object using papervision 3d and as3. A nice and ellegant approach to the CameraObject3D method. FYG the as file is only 9k!!! Read tutorial and download source.
Great news! Papervision3D developer Ralph Hauwert will come to Cologne to do a two days workshop. I think it is by far the best opportunity to learn more about Papervision and it is great that we will have Ralph here since most of the Papervision3D workshops from the core-team were always outside of Germany. The [...]

I’ve been invited, and have accepted, to speak at FlashForward 2008 in San Francisco this August. I’m psyched to visit the city again. It’s always held some kind of fascination for me. As far as the conference, I’m surprised I keep getting invited back. I was pretty critical of the pricing structure last year, and [...]
Here’s another of our additional components we used in a recent project and presented at LFPUG. It adds the following styles to TileList. verticalGap - the vertical spacing between item renderers. horizontalGap - the horizontal spacing between item renderers. scrollBarScale - the vertical scale of the VScrollBar if shown, and horizontal scale of the HScrollBar is shown. easing - the [...]
Mark Schmitt paints a big tent two-party picture where issue oriented constituencies are able to effectively organize and compete by virtue of Clay Shirky’s lowered transactions costs. The use of constituencies rather than parties is telling. The American political system’s implementation of Montesqueian separation of powers provides a durable, but extremely rigid political system by pitting [...]

Flickr stores on their servers, photos form all their users around the world, and they have an open api so you could interact with it, and make your own developments, like PicNik.com, the photos online editor, where you could import your Flickr photos and make it look really cool.

Now in this tutorial I’m gonna show you how to interact with the flickr data base, making your own photo search engine, looking for tags on the photos.

I’m sorry I’m late on announcing this, I’ve been super busy with this current client and trying to get everything else done for the course has just consumed all motor skills and brain cells ;( I’m taking a break from traveling for a while, so RMI has set me up with some on-line course time and [...]
