I continue to be impressed with all the amazing research projects being worked on at Adobe, this one is called “Interactive Video Object Manipulation” and it does well… video object manipulation. Can’t wait to see this project mature and hopefully make it into one of the software tools as a feature. Congratulations to the team working [...]
I recently found out about a very useful AIR application called “Moderator” created by Danny Dura, Platform Evangelist at Adobe. What the application does is give you access to your comment moderation queue if you’re running a WordPress blog. Installation is very easy, you first install a WordPress plugin and activate it, then download and install [...]
Finally you don’t have to make the trek across the pond to experience that rather wonderful British delight, Flash on the Beach. And this time you don’t have to put up with the Brighton weather, unforgiving exchange rates, or jet lag. The american reversioning of this conference is doing it in style. In Miami beach! The [...]
We’re all really thrilled that Papervision has been awarded the .net magazine’s innovation award, beating SilverLight, the BBC iPlayer and Google Android! Full story here on the Papervision blog.
It looks like I’m having some troubles with my hosting for images, source, and example .swfs. Please be patient while I try to resolve this. Thanks, John

Today the Adobe User Group Belgium organized a FlexCamp in Antwerp with some fantastic speakers lined up including no less than three Adobe employees (Matt Chotin, James Ward and Chet Haase) which must be a new record for us. I presented a slightly updated version of my “Introduction to SQLite in Adobe AIR” talk, covering the [...]
The LinkedIn Flex Developers Group is now accepting new members. LinkedIn can increase group size on request in 1000 member increments, so we're OK until we hit 4000. All pending requests have been approved. And in case you want to sign up, here are the links to all three LinkedIn groups: ColdFusion Developers Group Flex Developers Group Adobe AIR Developers
A while ago I was doing a talk on the Flash platform for NRK, and to give the audience a bit of perspective I took a trip down memory lane and dug up some real goodies. Oh yes. Since this is too good to not to be repeated, allow me to present; the Macromedia ShockZone site [...]
InfoWorld just reviewed AIR 1.5, and was more than impressed, giving it a 9.3 (out of 10) and full marks for ease of development. The review concludes with "For developers who want to bridge the gaps between Windows, Mac, and Linux -- and between the desktop and the Web -- now is the time to be working with AIR".
Next time I miss something this important, kick my shins. An even better thing would be sending a small tip reminding us of what we missed. A comment on any of our posts would be received with thanks, even about JavaFX on which isn’t out primary focus. Sun JavaFX 1.0 was released a week ago. The [...]

An interesting article in the New York Times explains how nuclear weapons technology made its way from the confines of America to the rest of the world: Hidden Travels of the Atomic Bomb. In 1945, after the atomic destruction of two Japanese cities, J. Robert Oppenheimer expressed foreboding about the spread of nuclear arms. "They are [...]

We almost missed second day of the conference, partly because we decided to take a short brake and to have a look around, partly because we agreed to change some things in our coming session. “Some changes” took whole day and night, but that didn’t prevent us from joining Customer Appreciation Event, to which people have been transported by a bunch of buses. It took place in a comfortable La Pelota place, dj was playing, and there were a lot of tasty food around, along with red wine and beer. It was really funny and cool, but we managed not to drink and to get away fast, in order to polish our tomorrow session to it’s best. We spent whole night arguing and remaking some slides. I slept like 4 hours (had to speak English tomorrow), Anton didn’t sleep at all, showing firmness and heroism, as long as our team at the office (they we’re preparing 3D multiplayer browser “Tanks” game prototype for us). As you can imagine, noone was very eager to get to our session at 9 p.m. next morning. We got like 35 people at the beginning, and then more yawning ones coming with coffee. At the end of the session the auditorium was half full. We were well prepared, I was relatively calm, so we did quite a good session for our first international conference. We forgot to take pics, and Artemy from Flexis was filming us, but he got “file corrupted” arror, so we don’t have that movie for now. After that all the pressure has gone, we joined Rob’s session, and then Anton fell asleep at the hotel (I couldn’t wake him up, and even had to get another room key at reception). I went out to take a walk, lost it magic fog, taking pictures, and was wandering around for some time. Later Rob managed to save me by inviting to the dinner at the restaurant (one more unsuccessful try to wake Anton up). So, in a company of twelve, I spend great evening with pasta and perfect italian beer. Then I felt really sleepy and got back home. Tomorrow: is there life after the session, walk in the centre, stylish nightclub, how we got robbed, how cops deceived us twice, police station at the night, hospitable russian embassy, pictures.
After a great Max in Milano, I was inspired to start playing around with Pixel Bender. Granted, I wasn't going to create a raytracer and for someone who still struggles to understand the ColorMatrixFilter I thought the outcome of this tinker is pretty useful.
