October 13-15th, I’ll be doing a three day course on “Programming ActionScript 3 for Flex 3“, covering everything you’ll need to get started with ActionScript 3.0 development for your Flex-based Rich Internet Applications. Later that month [...]
I was amazed at the amount of positive feedback I got yesterday when Leo Laporte published the little twitlive.tv AIR application on his blog. Decided to address some of the excellent suggestions that were coming in and spent another hour or so working on it before releasing this 1.5 build. Here’s what has changed: The application [...]
Some of the brains behind Ajax frameworks Dojo, MooTools, YUI, and Spry weigh in on AIR in videos just posted to the Adobe Developer Connection.
Last Sunday afternoon I was listening to The Tech Guy on twitlive.tv and when I accidentally closed its tab one too many times decided to quickly make an AIR app for it to have it available as a desktop application. It literally took me 11 lines of code and a good 15 minutes to build. Decided [...]

RIAdventure is a ColdFusion / Flex / AIR conference and event, on a Bahamas cruise. Yep, you read that right, you get to use your favorite languages and tools while enjoying the Bahamas - and the price is really good, too!
One of my favourite AIR features is the support of creating local database file using SQLite embedded engine. If you have SQL skills it'll be easy to storing persistent local data to your desktop application. You can use this feature to store application data, favourite users' configuration options, document-oriented application, to cache data and synch it with the network. Creating a SQLite database in AIR is pretty simple:

Over the months I have tried numerous Twitter clients and few have survived my wrath. Twitter has for me largely taken over from email and IM for staying in touch with colleagues, family and friends. Working with the constraint of 140 characters also tends to make sure people get to the point which you don’t [...]
The BBC has been using Microsoft technologies for widgets that are used by "hundreds of thousands of users". And they have just publicly stated that they have dumped the Microsoft solution for an Adobe AIR one. paidContent has posted details, too.

Have you ever wanted to store a users password, you know, that little checkbox that says 'Save Password' on any login form. Or maybe you just want to persist a session token or other information. You could use the Local Shared Objects or even the File API, but that isn't very secure. How do you [...]
Another very important and delicate aspect of desktop applications, but not only, is the one regarding data encryption. Encryption is the process of transforming data by using an algorithm to make it unreadable to anyone except those possessing a key. Adobe AIR has an EncryptedLocalStore class that allows to encrypt data to store it on the client’s machine. Adobe AIR EncryptedLocalStore APIs use DPAPI (Data Protection Application Programming Interface) on Windows and the Keychain on Mac.
I’m really happy to finally be able to announce a project I’ve been working on for a little while now — www.riajobs.org. A job board targeted at Rich Internet Application developers from various backgrounds be it Flash, Flex, AJAX or Silverlight. Of course there are already great community resources available for those looking for Flash, [...]
